I am directed by Mr sec Ch to ack the rece-
ipt of your letter of the 14th inst on the subj
ect of the new edition of the Ordinances of
HongKong.
2.
Of the two important Ordinances to which
you refer one, the Building Ordinance, has not
yet been forwarded to the S. of S. and it is
probable that some time will elapse before
certain outstanding questions with regard to
the other, the Merchant Shipping Ordinance,
can be definitely settled. Mr Ch therefore
thinks that it would be best that the re-
vision of the Ordinances should be brought
down only to the end of the year1901 and
that the two Ordin ances in question should
be treated as non- existent.
